{ Recap } April Edition

Contrary to popular belief, the season we know as "spring" has, indeed, become a fictional aspect. Expect loads of winds, rain, and more winter chills! Brought to you by news at 11.

I suppose, and that needs emphasis, so take two: I suppose the saying "April showers bring May flowers" can be considered a true one if you look at how disgusting it was the past week of April, to today, the first day of May. The sun is shining, you don''t need a sweater, and it is bright as hell.

I don't know if this is obvious or not, but yeah. I'm feeling a little miffed over the weather. It's been a mess the entire month. But! That isn't to say it wasn't a decent month for me, in some aspects!

For one, I finally, finally got to see Black Panther. I may be 4 years late, but I saw it in theatres and that's what matters! I also saw The Quiet Place, and reader, I cried. Suffice to say, I liked both movies a lot!

I also hit my halfway point in the beginning of April! My goal this year—on the whole—is to read 100 books and Legendary, book two of the Caraval series, was my 50th book! This is exciting because, a) last year when I reached this point, it was around June! and b) I'm waaaay ahead, more than I thought. Which is great!

I also got to see more of my extended family than I'd like. But! It cancels out because I also got to see several of my good friends and got my eyebrows done. I feel very On Fleek.

I also got some very amazing books in the past week, SO there is that.

In other, maybe exciting news... I... kind of got a job? It's tiring and I'm so tired, even as I write this, but oh my gosh, I might have a job. (I'm pretty sure, at least??) It means less reading, so re: being ahead, it's a good thing now!

Now: onto the reads!

the reads

April became really hectic after job training so I didn't get to read as many books as I was hoping to. I just barely managed to reach my monthly goals, but I don't think 15—or even 10!—books is an achievable goal monthly now. But I'll take what I can get, so without further ado, here is my April in books.

♩ The Case for Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro ♫ ♫ ♫  }
♩ Legendary by Stephanie Garber ♫ ♫ ♫  }

Sooo... 14 books! And 2 novellas! It's still—somehow—16 at the end, and I can't be happier!

resolution update

In case you don't know what this is, here's the basic essentials.

Every month, my goal is to read at least one (1) backlist book; one (1) physical book; and one (1) monthly release. These do not include rereads. May or may not add an audiobook as well, but we'll see!

{ backlist }

♩ If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio ♫ ♫ }

♩ The Wicker King by K. Ancrum ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫  }
♩ Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ }

I feel like I read SO MANY backlist books this month! In reality, it is just the same amount as last month lmao

{ physical }

♩ An Assassin's Guide to Love & Treason by Virgina Boecker ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ }
♩ The Wicker King by K. Ancrum ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫  }

{ monthly }

♩ Defy the Worlds by Claudia Gray ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫  }

Not many monthly reads this time around, sadly. But... I think I read most of my anticipated April releases so! There is that.

recent happenings

I've decided that this section will be a little look into my personal life and what I was up to, other than reading, during the past month.

{ music }

It's a little embarrassing this time around. I'd rather, uh, not mention one or two of the songs I've been listening to.

BUT THE OTHERS, oh my god, guys. GUYS. Did I mention I watched Black Panther? Because you bet I'm hella obsessed with All The Stars. It's, like, all I've been listening to for the past few weeks. It's both awful and amazing and I love it.

I also discovered the song Unstoppable by The Score while watching Timeless a week or two ago and I really like it!

And speaking of TimelessI'm OBSESSED with the TV soundtrack! Of course, I'm a Lyatt shipper and their theme has been my jam.

{ netflix / tv }

I sort of started watching Person of Interest, but that I'm not very far into it. I haven't really had time and I didn't really want to binge watch anything, but I do plan on continuing... just slowly.

But.

Ugh. Uuuuuuuuugh.

I am eons behind on everything I used to watch: How to Get Away With Murder, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow. Oh! Also Black Lightning. (Can you tell I have a type? lmao.) At this point, I'm just waiting for them to finish and get on Netflix so I can watch themLegends, Murder, and Lightning are there already, I know)... but I also just. Ugh, I don't want to, you know? And I know the reason why for most of these (exc. Murder):

I was introduced to Timeless. And oh, guys, how I love it. My twitter friend, Ri (@astarya) got me into it and I'm a hopeless mess, I love this show so, so much. Please watch it if you aren't already! It's got great writing, amazing character interactions, friendships, and relationships. It's so complex and interesting! And more on significant historical figures instead of an era in general, if that makes sense. The main character, Lucy Preston, is honestly one of my main inspirations.

I'm just. I'm really emo over it.

{ life }

I have not been writing, in case you are wondering. I've tried, but alas! Not for me.

Okay, I'm sort of kidding. I mean, I meant it when I said not for me and, uh, when I said I have not been writing, but like. I totally plan on continuing. Eventually. Look, it's very difficult, okay? And time. Where has it gone, where is it going, and can it please stop for the love of god?

Besides that and what I mentioned before, in the beginning of this recap, not much else has happened! Sometimes I wonder why I have this part when nothing interesting ever happens to me, but lmao.

If you are wondering though, I put on lipstick today. I'm also having takeout and I 100% stained my shrimp in bright red. So. That's how that's going.
